Thu, May 2: Southeast Ventura County YMCA’s 25th Annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast The Southeast Ventura County YMCA is hosting its 25th Annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast, Thursday, May 2 at CLU’s Gilbert Sports Center in Thousand Oaks. The breakfast brings the spiritual communities of all faiths together to celebrate fellowship and prayer. Now Open: SDI and Star Wars Exhibit at the Reagan Library ​V​isit the Reagan Library for a fun and informative exhibition on Star Wars – both the real-world technology of President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), as well as items from the movie phenomenon.​ The exhibition will include original items from SDI including an authentic Command Launch Equipment Console, as well as props, costumes, and concept art from the Star Wars franchise, including a Landspeeder made for A New Hope, master replicas of Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber made from the original mold of The Last Jedi, and an original script signed by Dave Prowse (actor who portrayed Darth Vader in the original trilogy).​ Plan your visit in advance. Mon, May 27: Memorial Day Commemoration at the Reagan Library Please join us on Memorial Day for a very special program as we honor the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The program includes a flyover, a Color Guard, Harpist Thomas Baker and remarks by Gold Star Family Member Tony Cordero, Captain Robert Kimnach III, Commanding Officer, Naval Base Ventura County, and Invocation by Naval Base Ventura County Chaplain Aristotle Rivera. Keynote remarks will be made by United States Air Force Colonel Patricia Blassie (retired), whose brother, Michael Blassie, was killed in action during the Vietnam War in May 1972. During our event, we’ll share the rare connection between Michael Blassie and Ronald Reagan. The program is free to attend, however reservations are recommended. The program will be held outdoors at the Reagan Library’s Gold Star Family Memorial Monument.
